Over the course of the year, the ASHG Digital Learning Committee and Digital Program staff hosted a range of digital programs designed to connect, educate, and engage the ASHG community. From webinars to interactive workshops and podcasts, these programs have opened new doors to learning on a variety of topics.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to do so, now is the perfect time to catch up on ASHG’s ten partnered journal club webinars from this year. These webinars feature the authors of recently published papers from both the American Journal of Human Genetics (AJHG) and Human Genetics and Genomics Advances (HGGA). Viewers receive not only invaluable insights on recently published science but also have access to a platform for real-time engagement with these authors. Keeping in mind that schedules are busy and your time is limited, each Journal Club is a quick 30-minutes.
Consider checking out one of our most popular journal clubs from this year:
- Evaluating and improving health equity and fairness of polygenic scores
- Exome CNV detection and classification in rare diseases
- Canonical splice site variants: more than meets the eye
ASHG’s virtual workshops this year provided valuable skill-building sessions and collaborative discussions. Topics included an update about the All of Us data, ways to get involved in advocacy for science, and tools to teach variant curation. Each workshop includes a recording and supplementary materials to continue your learning. If you’re interested in working with ASHG to host your own workshop on a particular tool, technique, or something else – consider submitting a workshop proposal for 2025.
If you’re looking for content that doesn’t require a video to watch – consider catching up on our podcast, Genetically Speaking. Available on platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Overcast, it’s an easy way to stay engaged on the go. This year there were eleven interviews published that captured a broad look at the ASHG community – from members’ work in spaces like research, teaching, and the clinic to their efforts to bring diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) to those spaces and the larger genetics community. Genetically Speaking’s Season Three: “Voices in Genomics” not only connects you with these stories; it also provides some practical advice in incorporating those DEIA strategies into your own work.
Looking ahead, ASHG is excited to continue delivering more digital programs that inspire community, education, and engagement between members everywhere.
