Executive Update: Mona Miller, Executive Director
September 2018
Welcome to the first edition of The Messenger, ASHG’s new quarterly member newsletter. It seeks to keep you informed about important Society news and programs, offer perspectives from the ASHG president and others, identify resources that help you advance your science, and share tools for public education and advocacy.
With human genetics powering extraordinary advances and revealing new knowledge, the Society seeks to be your member community. In this and other communications, we will highlight emerging science, ways to get involved, and a variety of voices from the community. Throughout, we will strive to reflect the tremendous diversity that makes human genetics so dynamic — including the diversity of research areas, people, professions, and career paths. This issue’s article on preliminary results from the 2018 ASHG membership survey conveys the robustness of the ASHG community, and points to some possible priorities and interests for potential ASHG activity. We thank you for taking time to participate in the survey this summer, and look forward to keeping you informed on next steps.
As ASHG looks to the future, we are committed to informing and supporting members of the Society ever more effectively. I welcome feedback on what we are doing well, and what we can do even better in the future. You can reach me at society@ashg.org. Thank you for your membership in 2018 and we look forward to welcoming you as a renewed member in 2019!
