This year marks the 5th anniversary of ASHG’s open-access journal, Human Genetics and Genomics Advances (HGG Advances). Over the past five years, HGG Advances has established itself as a leading platform for scientists to share their discoveries. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our vibrant community of researchers authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and readers. Your support and dedication have been the driving force behind HGG Advances’ success.

Their dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to excellence have been instrumental in shaping the journal’s vision and ensuring the publication of impactful research. The Editorial Board’s tireless efforts in guiding the peer-review process, providing valuable feedback to authors, and upholding the highest standards of scientific rigor form the bedrock of our journal’s reputation.

From the very beginning, one of the cornerstones of HGG Advances’ mission has been to support and elevate early-career researchers. Our commitment to early-career researchers is reflected in everything we do. A special collection featuring work from early-career investigators is featured prominently on our homepage. We also publish monthly interviews with early-career investigators to highlight exciting new research as well as provide readers with an opportunity to get to know the people behind the science. In 2022, we established the HGG Advances Award for Outstanding Early Career Publication. Each winner is a true rising star in our field.

We continue look for ways to innovate and better serve our community. We recently introduced a new article format: Brief Communications. These short, highly structured research articles report concise, impactful early-stage findings. This new format provides an opportunity to accelerate the dissemination of new findings in a way that maximizes shareability, discoverability, and reusability of data. We think that Brief Communications will enhance the diversity of content published in HGG Advances as well as provide a valuable resource for researchers seeking to stay at the forefront of the latest developments in human genetics and genomics.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to our core values of innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity. We will continue to prioritize the publication of high-impact research that addresses critical questions and challenges in the field. We will also strive to foster an environment that encourages open dialogue, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the sharing of knowledge and resources.

Here’s to the next five years of discovery, innovation, and collaboration!
