ROCKVILLE, MD - The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kiran Musunuru MD, PhD, MPH, ML, MRA, as the new Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Human Genetics (AJHG), the flagship journal of the Society. The Society is grateful for the leadership of current Editor-in-Chief, Bruce Korf, MD, PhD, who will end his tenure in December 2025. Musunuru’s term begins January 1, 2026.

Dr. Musunuru is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, Genetics, and Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa, where he also serves as Director of the Penn Cardiovascular Institute’s Genetic and Epigenetic Origins of Disease Program and Scientific Director at the Penn Center for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease. “I am honored to take on the mantle of Editor-in-Chief and to continue to build on the strong foundation established over 75 years to provide an author-friendly venue to publish the best human genetics and genomics research,” Dr. Musunuru said.

Following an extensive search process chaired by Susan A. Slaugenhaupt, PhD, of Massachusetts General Hospital, the ASHG Board of Directors unanimously approved the appointment of Musunuru as Editor-in-Chief. “It is an exciting time of advances for human genetics and genomics and ASHG, and I am thrilled to see Kiran leading our Society’s journal,” said ASHG President Sarah Tishkoff, PhD. “His deep scientific expertise, coupled with years of service to ASHG are an asset as we seek to publish high-quality research articles and commentaries that shape our field.”
